Kohaku Shiai “Winner Stays Up” Judo Tournament

Eligibility: Any Judoka aged 16 to adult who has a current USJI, USJA, or USJF card or National Passport card for foreign athletes. Judo players must present card at registration.
Sign ups: Begin at 10:00 a.m.
Entry Fee: Registration is $20.00 per person. Novice players may play in novice and elite division at no additional charge
Competition begins: 12:00 p.m.
Rules: IJF rules will govern, except (1) mat side coaching will be allowed and (2) players will be allowed to change gi’s to conform to the rules, without being penalized. (3) All female contestants are required to wear a t-shirt or leotard to compete. (4) a gi is required but IJF restrictions will be relaxed (5) No kansetsu-waza (関節技) (joint locks) for novice players (sankyu and down) in any group. The contestants are are split into three groups; male novice players (sankyu and down), elite male players (nikyu and up) and all female players. The contestants will line up by size in each pool. Coaches have the authority to rearrange contestants if needed. Fighting will start with the smallest contestant first. If a player wins 3 in a row in novice and female ranks or 4 in a row in elite rank he/she is retired as a winner. All contestant that were not retired as a winner go into a consolation pool in the order that they lost. After the three initial pools have finished consolation pools will be ran. Fighting again will start with the smallest contestant first. Every person is guaranteed at least 2 fights. Additional fights are allowed at the coach’s discretion.
Match times: Female and Male Sankyu and below – 4 minutes, Senior Male Nikyu and above and Open Female – 5 minutes. No additional time will be given between matches.
